What we're rankingOne snap at a time: how much it mattered, how hard it was, how long it has lasted.

Rank the single greatest plays ever run in a Super Bowl. Weigh how much the play changed the outcome, the moment it came in (score, clock, down and distance), how hard it was to make, how it has lived on in the years since, and how gutsy the call was. A routine play that happened to decide a game and a spectacular one that didn't can both belong here; you decide the mix.

To make the pool, a play had to:

  • Be a single snap from Super Bowl I through Super Bowl LX. The play itself, not the drive, the half or the game.
  • Belong to the side that made it. A famous failure appears only as the decisive play from the other side: Butler's pick, not Seattle's slant. Norwood's miss is the one exception, because nobody else made that play.
  • Share its game with no more than three other plays. Four is the cap from any one Super Bowl.

The pool opens in no particular order you should read into.
